I’ve worked in the mental health space for over
20 years as a doctor, advocate, consultant psychiatrist, author and public speaker.

As a psychiatrist, I help my patients. As an advocate, I help my colleagues and my community. I’m passionate about contributing to debates around mental health issues in an informed and honest way.

While I’m best known in the public eye for my media appearances on programs such as The Drum and 7:30, behind the scenes I’ve always been an advocate for my fellow doctors. I have held several office bearer positions within the AMA, I’ve mentored trainees, and I’ve done everything I can to improve our professional mental health landscape.

In 2014 I published my first book, ‘How Shrinks Think’, to help demystify my profession. Since then I have continued to learn about doctors and mental illness, and have spoken on topics such as doctor suicide, AHPRA and mandatory reporting.

Today I see my purpose as being a voice for our wider industry – doctors and patients alike – as a professional communicator with media training. My personal mission is to improve mental health outcomes for everyone.

Open. Honest. Less rhetoric. More real. I’m here to keep vital conversations about mental health going.
